Ports

Ports is located in the Components category in System Information. It contains two subcategories: Serial and Parallel. For both serial ports and parallel ports, the details pane displays such information as name, status, I/O port (the communication channel among hardware devices installed on your computer), IRQ channel, and driver.

Serial Port is an interface on the computer that allows asynchronous transmission of data characters one bit at a time. Also called a communication or COM port.

Parallel Port is a connection point on your computer where you can connect devices that pass data into and out of a computer. For example, a printer is typically connected to a parallel port (also called an LPT port), and a modem is typically connected to a serial port (also called a COM port).
